TweetBook is a Google Chrome extension that brings the Facebook sharing and Like features to Twitter. Install the extension and wait 4 Seconds after loading a complete page. A share and like link appears in each tweet box within this time frame that can be used to like and share the tweet on Facebook.
TweetBook checks for new tweets every 30 seconds, therefore, if any new tweets come up, you will be able to share or like them. Although many websites contain plugins to allow sharing webpages across a number of websites, this extension provides the utility to easily share tweets to Facebook.
Do you have more than one Gmail account and would like to manage them in a same place. Logging in to different Gmail accounts over and over again just won’t work since it consumes too much of time. If you are using two different browsers such as IE and Firefox then you can open two separate Gmail accounts respectively, but this doesn’t make any sense. If you are using Firefox, then there is an add-on called Gmail Manager that lets you manage more than one Gmail account easily.
Apart from it’s default multiple Gmail account management, it also shows notifications in case you receive an email in any of your account. Once you have installed the add-on, you won’t find much change in your browser except that you will find a little grayed out Gmail icon on the right side of your status bar.
Click this icon to begin adding a Gmail account, once you click this icon, a Gmail Manager Preferences screen will pop-up as shown in the screenshot below.
If you don’t want it to remember your Gmail password, you can check the Never Save Passwords For Mail Accounts checkbox under Security. Click the Add button, enter your Gmail account details and click OK.
Once you have added an account, you can add more accounts that you would like to manage. You can then select various options by going to Toolbar and Notification tabs, once done, click OK.
Now look again on the bottom-right side of your browser and you will find your account signed in, move your mouse over it to see full details.
Right-click this icon and select the account that you would like to access.
This powerful Firefox add-on is one of my favorite and I highly recommend it to those looking forward to manage multiple Gmail accounts. One of the best feature that I like in this add-on is the ability to show a small preview of anemail without going over to the website. Enjoy!

Back in 2009, Nakodari covered one brilliant subtitle search utility called SubLight. At that point, it offered a neat interface with option to directly associate video player (VLC or WMP) and video file for which you want to search the subtitles. Recently, SubLight has been updated with latest version – 2.6, which comes with a great deal of improvements with most significant being revamped Office 2010 like UI, right-click context menu integration, support for more subtitle online resources, and drag & drop support to insert video file. Along with its primary source, the other online subtitle search resources are, Divx Titlovi, SubDivx, PodnapisiNet, and AllSubs. After configuring the initial wizard for associating default media player and search sources, drag the video file over the main interface, it will automatically insert it and suggest the most suitable title. Once correct title of movie or TV show is specified, click Search subtitles to begin search from selected online sources. The Subtitles are listed in the bottom window with yellow marked result indicates that it is linked with specified video file.
The ribbon holds option to download the subtitle, play video to verify selected subtitle file, filter and clear search results. It also allows user to publish subtitle to its primary online resource. Under Publish subtitle tab, enter video title, subtitle file, language and genre, and click Publish subtitle to upload subtitle file.
By default, it comes without touching your right-click context menu. However, if you want to start downloading and searching for subtitle from right-click menu, under Settings tab, click Explorer integration from left sidebar, and enable downloading subtitles option and those video file types from the list that you want to add into Windows Shell menu.
Search sources, subtitle options (including default download folder), and associated video player can be changed from Settings window. Don’t forget to click Save and apply changes button on ribbon to make changes permanent. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Gtalk is a Chrome extension that provides complete Google Talk functionality within a pop-up window of the Chrome browser. With Gtalk extension, you can perform all Google Talk tasks such as chatting with friends, adding contacts, managing Google Talk settings, etc without the need of opening the desktop messenger. This way you can talk to your Google Talk contacts while browsing the web via Chrome. It can also provide management of two separate Google talk accounts conveniently. As during testing we opened this extension from a specific Google account and accessed the Google Talk messenger simultaneously with a separate Google I.D. The result was such that we found no conflict and were able to open both accounts at the same time (via Gtalk messenger and extension).
It can also be quite helpful if for some reason you do not have Google Talk installed on your computer or if you do not wish to install an extra application i.e. the Gtalk messenger. Having less applications on your system obviously reduces the load on it and using such extensions can significantly reduce the amount of pressure on a system that may have low system specs (e.g. a single core PC). It is however, worth mentioning here that this extension is in its Beta stage and therefore, might have some functionality issues. It is under heavy development and the developer has assured to make it more dynamic in the coming days.
ManyCam is an application for taking pictures and recording videos from Webcam, as well as editing and adding effects to them. It is quite similar to the paid software Cyberlink YouCam which costs about $45. However, despite having more dynamic options than the latter, ManyCam is a free software. It works on Windows and a version for Mac has also been introduced.
After taking a picture you can manage its saturation, color balance, brightness, etc. Moreover, you can also add animations, text and dynamic effects to them. The same options are also available to clear the imagery of the recorded videos.
ManyCam has built in CGI graphic (such as fire and water effects) that can be added to enhance the look of your images. The images can be saved (with or without the effects) in PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. You can also create your custom effects via the Add New Effect option at the bottom of the main interface. There are several built-in options to customize the look of your images and videos ranging from flags, funny images, dynamic backgrounds to 3D masks.
It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.5 or greater.
Many a times people do not know the email addresses of all of their Twitter followers. This makes it difficult to interact with them on a more personal level. For example, some Twitter followers may simply be interested in the content that is tweeted by an individual, instead of having any personal relationship or acquaintance with him/her. Twitter itself does not provide a default option to send files via Twitter. FileTweet is an Adobe Air based desktop application that allows users to send files (up to 2 GB) by entering a Twitter username or email address. It is much like SendGenie which we reviewed earlier. However, unlike SendGenie, it is a cross platform application and works with Windows, Mac and Linux based operating systems. All files are saved to the FileTweet server and are accessible via a given URL, which is emailed to the specified email address or to the registered email address of the Twitter user (if the mail is sent by entering the Twitter username).
To get started, click Sign in with Twitter. This will open a webpage in your default browser, from where you will have to sign in and grant authorization to the Filetweet application to your Twitter account.
After logging in simply enter a Twitter username or an email address, drag and drop the file(s) to the Filetweet interface, type a message (optional) and click Send My File. Users can send file as heavy as 2GB in a single instance.
The recipient will receive an email with a URL, from where the file can be downloaded. If a file is sent via a Twitter username, the email is sent to the default email address that the user registered for his/her Twitter account. This make it possible to send files to Twitter followers, without the need of knowing their email address. For example, many people follow Addictive Tips authors on their Twitter accounts as we regularly tweet our articles, however, we do not know the email addresses of all our followers. Using services like FileTweet makes it possible to send information in such scenarios to Twitter acquaintances without having to ask each individual for their personal email address.
The recipients of the file do not require authorizing Filetweet to their Twitter accounts and can easily download the file(s) from the URL. It is worth mentioning here that since all files can be downloaded by anyone with access to the URL, so make sure that the URL is only sent to relevant people and in case the files contain confidential data, ask the recipient to avoid sharing the link.
Being a cross platform desktop application, it works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac and Linux based operating systems.
Have you ever tried to bypass MegaUpload downloading restrictions? If yes but with no luck, plug Megaupload Skip Time in your Chrome browser. It is a small extension which offers direct downloading from Megaupload. You wont have to wait for 45 seconds any more. It bypasses the time limit, allowing users to directly download files without wasting almost a minute.
After the extension is installed, you will see a small Megaupload icon in the address bar. On webpage with Megaupload link, its icon will appear immediately, indicating that direct downloading can be initiated. Right-clicking the icon will allow you to disable the time skipping function anytime.
Now just open Megaupload file link, the icon appears in address bar, and the file will be automatically put to download as shown in the screenshot below.
It can also work on those web sites where Megaupload videos can be streamed directly, as it is capable of extracting downloading links from embedded videos.
Using Firefox? Check out MUBundle to remove time restrictions from Megaupload.
If you haven’t remove junk off your PC lately, a quick glance into Program Files will reveal a plethora of folders of many uninstalled applications, which contain nothing or just have desktop.ini / thumbs.db files. Even uninstalling applications properly seems helpless in removing such empty folders that are present in various locations, such as, Program files, My Documents, and Windows folder. If you’re planning to remove all the empty folders, try out RED (Remove Empty Directories). Unlike other empty directory removal utilities, it shows a complete hierarchy of root folder with red marked folders indicating either an empty folder or a folder that contains empty sub-folder(s). This will help you in knowing the location where empty folders are residing and where uninstalled applications leave their traces.
To begin scanning your system for empty folders, launch the app, choose the location to search and click Scan folder to view the hierarchy of folders present in defined location. At the right side, you can check the icon description to know the which folders are hidden, protected, locked, or contains trash.
Once scanning process is completed, just click Delete folder to remove all the empty folders along with folder containing trash files in one go.
RED is highly configurable. While providing efficient mechanism to find out empty folders, it also lets you change the criteria. For instance, it considers folders having thumb.db, desktop.ini files as empty, if you need to change the list, head over to Settings and specify file types which you want to remove.
By default, it moves all the empty folders to Recycle bin to ensure safe removal, however, you can pick out old RED delete mode to permanently remove the folders and junk files. It works on Windows XP. Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
A while back, we talked about Windows OS being devoid of an App Store and advocated Npackd as one good choice for installing and managing Windows applications. Going over Npackd features, we couldn’t help but say that it lacks a lot of features in terms of organizing and searching applications by different categories, such as, Internet, Security, Video, Converter and so on. AllMyApps is a freshly baked utility which is, however, in beta phase yet seems promising in addressing the user needs when it comes to choosing a feature-rich App Store for Windows. Fortunately, it covers almost all the essential options which you might look for in an App Store. Be it application types, categories, runtime environments, download manager, or complete product description with ratings that you want to check before downloading, it brings all these necessary features of an OS App Store in a drop-dead UI.
Since it’s going through testing phase, you might not be able to find plentiful of application software, desktop utilities but most celebrated applications, add-ons, browsers, IDEs, etc., are provided in respective categories, such as, Adobe Flash, Firefox, Google Chrome, VLC, Notepad++, Skype, Live Messenger, Spybot, Paint.NET, and many more.
The very first step is to register an account with AllMyApps, so you can manage your applications from multiple systems. Once registered, download the desktop utility and sign-in with your account.
After the connection is established, it will start populating applications into multiple categories. You can navigate through categories, add, and manage chosen apps in My List from left sidebar. A search bar at the top will help filtering out applications by supplied keywords in realtime.
After you’ve selected an application, it will show you EULA and other details with an option to install the application.
Just click Install to start downloading the application. After the application is downloaded, it will start installing the application in silent mode. You can keep AllMyApps at your fingertips by minimizing it to system tray, from where you can bring it up anytime and sign off. It doesn’t matter where you are, in home, off for vocations, or in office, My List containing applications can be remotely managed through its web application.
Below you can watch a brief demonstration video.
As per our testing results, we didn’t find any sort of problems and errors. Developers are open to suggestions and eagerly need user feedbacks & requests to ensure availability of their favorite applications. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Facebook’s build-in chat feature is useful, but it lacks a desktop IM. Who will open facebook window for hours just for chatting? Browsers can crash or get accidently closed, therefore putting an end to the conversation. I am never comfortable with messengers build inside a website and prefer using a desktop IM. Lets look at 3 different ways in which you can use Facebook Chat on your Desktop Messenger.
Note: When you use facebook chat from desktop IMs, you will be able to use all feature that are present in facebook’s build-in online messenger.
Digsby (Cross-Platform)
Digsby is the first 3rd party messenger to support facebook’s chat feature. It is a cross-platform messenger available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. No hacks or plugins are required.
Just register for an Digsby account and login with it.
Once you are logged in, click Add Account.
Now in the Accounts tab, click Add IM Account and select Facebook
Chat from the list.
Enter your facebook login details and start chatting.
It’s that simple!
Pidgin (Cross-Platform)
Pidgin is an opensource 3rd party IM that has a large user base but sadly till today there is no official support for facebook chat. The only way to connect with Facebook chat is through a plugin.
Grab the Facebook Chat Plugin for Pidgin and with it you can log into the Facebook servers, grab the buddy list, send/receive messages, add/remove friends, receive notifications, search for Facebook friends and set your Facebook status.
Once you have installed this plugin, you will find Facebook listed among the supported IMs.
Enter your facebook login details and click Add.
Once added, you will see the list of facebook buddies that are online instantly.
Adium (Mac OS X)
Adium is a free opensource IM for Mac OS X. The latest version(1.3.3) has a build-in support for facebook chat, just login with your facebook account and you are good to go.
Above screenshot is taken from AllFacebook
Editor’s Note (Conclusion)
Digsby has an official support for Facebook Chat and is available for all three operating systems, Pidgin has no official support for Facebook Chat but can be added with a plugin, while Adium officially supports Facebook Chat but is only available for Mac OS X. I prefer to use Digsby since it is more user-friendly, has full support of Facebook chat, and is available for all popular OS. What do you think?
Whenever you receive an email, you receive more than just the message. The email comes with headers that carry important information that can tell where the email was sent from and possibly who sent it. For that, you would need to find the IP address of the sender and this is how you do it.
Windows Live Mail
Log into your Windows Live Mail account with your username and password,Open the inbox. To display the headers, right click on the email message in the Inbox, and select View Source.
This will open up a new page with a detailed header content.
Now look for Received: from followed by IP address within square brackets
If you have multiple Received: from headers, eliminate the ones that have proxy.anyknownserver.com.
Gmail
Log into your Gmail account with your username and password, Open up the mail. To display the email headers, Click on the Reply drop down box and select Show Original.
Look for Received: from followed by the IP address between square brackets [ ].
If you find more than one Received: from patterns, select the last one.
Yahoo Mail
Log into your Yahoo! mail with your username and password, Click on Inbox or whichever folder you have stored your mail, Open the mail. If you do not see the headers above the mail message, your headers are not displayed. To display the headers, click on the drop down Standard Header box and select Full Header.
Look for Received: from followed by the IP address between square brackets [ ]. If there are many instances of Received: from with the IP address, select the IP address in the last pattern. If there are no instances of Received: from with the IP address, select the first IP address in X-Originating-IP.
I hope this post will help you finding the IP address of the sender, do let us know what you think by leaving a comment.
Iconix is a free add-on for both Internet Explorer/Firefox browsers and Outlook Express/2003/2007 desktop clients. It solves a very unique problem. Suppose you get an email from PayPal asking for some information, how would you know if it is legit?
Once Iconix is installed, it will scan all your emails when you visit your account and add Truemark icons before the sender’s name that it finds to be legit. It scans by sending some details of every email to the Iconix server and then determines whether the email is original or fake. It scans all emails in real-time and the process is relatively fast. The scanning takes place in the background and does not disturb your activity.
Two versions are available from the download page, you can select the one that suits you best. Below are the examples of Iconix running in Gmail, Windows Live Mail, and Yahoo Mail. It is also compatible with other email providers, such as, AOL, Earthlink, Hotmail, etc.
Gmail
Windows Live Mail
Yahoo Mail
When Iconix installs on your computer, it will also install add-ons for both IE and Firefox. Note the ‘Iconix Scanning’ message in all 3 screenshots above, once the scan is complete, it will turn into ‘Iconix Enabled’ message. Below is the screenshot of Outlook 2007 with Iconix running in the background.
It’s a must have tool for those who wants to better protect their email inbox. The Outlook add-on works in both Windows XP and Vista, while the browser add-ons can be installed in IE 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, and Firefox 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0.
While you are scanning your emails with Iconix, here are two extra handy email tips for you. Receive emails without giving out your email address and Search photos, videos, and files in Gmail. Enjoy!
Do you want to manage all your email accounts such as Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc from Gmail? Instead of checking different email accounts on their websites respectively, you can now manage all your email accounts from Gmail. All you need is to enable POP3 from your Yahoo, Hotmail, or any other account, POP 3 is a protocol that enables your emails to be accessed through any email client like MS Outlook, Outlook Express, or Mozilla Thunderbird etc.
One big drawback of desktop email clients is that you cannot access your emails from public computers due to security concerns. This is where Gmail steps in, apart from it’s default feature(i.e sending and receiving emails from Gmail account), it can be used as an online email client for multiple accounts, which you can access from anywhere in the world.
To being, open your Gmail account and click Settings.
Now navigate to Account tab and click on Add Another Email Account as shown in the screenshot.
This will open a pop-up window and enter your email address there and click Next Step. The best thing about Gmail is that it will automatically detect the POP server and Port as you can see from the screenshot below.
If you want to leave a copy of an email that Gmail retrieves on your other email account, then select the Leave A Copy Of Retrieved Message On The Server checkbox. If you want all your incoming emails to skip Inbox and go straight to Archive then select the Archive Incoming Messages checkbox. After you are done click Add Account.
If you want to be able to send mail as the email you provided, then select Yes as shown in the screenshot below. You can always change the settings later.
In the next and final step enter the name that you want to use when sending mail and you are done.
One big drawback of the email accounts you add is that they will be checked by Google on periodic basis. Even if you don’t want to make Gmail your email-client-of-choice, it’s gigantic space can still be used for making permanent backups. Start adding your accounts now, and if you face any problem, do let me know.
